APRIL FLOPS (2023)

I didn’t have any flops in March, but good things don’t last forever.

I made the same mistake with both my April flops: expected to love a writer/artist’s story because I loved their previous work.

Sometimes that works out. Sometimes it ends in bitter disappointment.

REVIEW

I don’t hate this story, but there’s too much that bothers me about it.

The beginning was boring, I felt really disconnected from what the main character was going through. I typically like coming-of-age stories where a woman powers up, but this one lacked any depth.

Also a little confused what was happening. Cool, they unlocked mysterious powers…. but why is the title Persephone? Is there any connection to the myth? It felt more like a first chapter than a short story.

I was a little less bored by the rest (it turns dystopian), but it still had no substance. The ending was not satisfying & didn’t conclude anything.

79th read: Celestial Archers

Rating: 2 out of 5.

I really didn’t want to put this one on the flop list, but…

TITLE:

Celestial Archers

AUTHOR:

Lucas Teixeira & Gabriel Picolo

A pact between the Zodiacs undermines the balance of the Cosmos, and paying the price are the constellations who, led by Orion, Ursa Minor and Perseus decide to shed light on the events. REVIEW

I only realized this was an English translation after purchasing it. I was too excited to get my hands onto some of Gabriel Picolo’s work… perhaps I would have enjoyed it more in French or Spanish?

I spent the majority of this story confused (by the plot) & underwhelmed (by how it unfolded). Some of the character designs were cool, but there was too many of them & we moved too fast for me to grow attached to anyone (except Ursa Minor, cute cub)

I got almost no satisfaction from the ending & would not be interested in a sequel.
