68th read: The Time Traveler’s Wife

I remember watching this movie as a teenager, so curiosity took a hold of me when I found this book.

April has been nostalgic, this year. So many rereads and memories.

SYNOPSIS

This is the extraordinary love story of Clare and Henry, who met when Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-two and Henry was thirty. Impossible but true, because Henry suffers from a rare condition where his genetic clock periodically resets and he finds himself pulled suddenly into his past or future. In the face of this force they can neither prevent nor control, Henry and Clare’s struggle to lead normal lives is both intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.

REVIEW

I enjoyed listening to this one while doing chores, but I enjoyed the premise more than the plot/characters themselves.

It’s a little strange reading a love story where the characters met for the first time in different decades (Clare meets Henry for the first time when she is 6 and he is in his 30s, but Henry meets Clare for the first time when they are both in their twenties.) Some of the scenes where she is a child & he is a naked adult made me a little uncomfortable.

It gave me a giggle, when he finds medication to stop the time travelling & it’s the same one I was prescribed for psychosis.

Everything felt a bit long, a bit dragged out. I kept expecting the end, but the story kept going further. At least it wasn’t boring.
