REVIEW
Exactly what I needed right now.
I’m (very slowly) writing my own nonfiction graphic novel & this was great inspiration.
Visually, I loved every page. I’ll be rereading this and seeking other works from Zoe Thorogood to study how she makes decisions with storytelling/panelling.
Story-wise, it’s comforting for me to read about people/characters who have inexplicable suicidal thoughts from a young age, it helps me feel less lonely. The scenes where we examine the mother’s own challenges with mental health made me a bit emotional.
I loved the character/monster that personified depression. His design reminds of No-Face from spirited away, with more teeth but a similar temperament.
