REVIEW

Children’s books can be quite refreshing. I enjoyed this one a lot.

It was simple and wholesome, with different characters (young/old, feminine/masculine) holding equal value and importance in the plot. I liked how willing the adults were to listen, help and apologize to the children.

The historical context at the end was unexpected and led me down a researching/googling path about the kingdom of Benin filled with little wonders. I wish books like these were available at school when I was young. Learning about different cultures helps me cultivate a healthier (much less negative) view of the world.
