31th read: The Chrysalids

I found this book for free in the public domain, so I had low expectations.

I was wrong, once again!

The synopsis was too short to give a glimpse of the plot. I threw it in the background while playing Stardew Valley, but quickly grew too distracted to play. What a happy surprise.

REVIEW

I was so engrossed in this book, I stopped multi-tasking & truly enjoyed the listening.

I was captivated by Sophie and her extra toe. I loved David’s uncle. Every character we met was interesting. It was easy to care for them.

I loved the the kindness shown by Sophie’s family, the bigotry shown by David’s family (his aunt’s story is so sad), their view of the world around them as they travel through a world changed by nuclear warfare… New Zealand’s arrival was unexpected, but I enjoyed their interactions with our protagonists (who they perceive as primitive)

I expected a different type of ending, but I’m happy with this one. It was bittersweet.

This is the only big Wyndham book that I still have not read. Glad to hear that it is a good one!
